Nageki locks himself in After Nageki's suicide by fire, Hitori fled the labs. Nageki's final words to Hitori were of him telling Hitori that he wanted nothing more than his body to be burned so that the researchers could no longer use it to hurt anyone else. He told Hitori about how the Medical Institute was using him instead of helping him and that he hid the secrets of what they were truly doing in the library of the building. He soon found the other birdie, but Nageki locked himself in the room he started the fire in. Panicked, Hitori ran towards it and called out for Nageki. However, Hitori walked in on birdies flocking away and yelling about how somebirdie started a fire. Pigeonations Medical Institute in order to try and find Nageki.
Hitori was determined and worried for Nageki's wellbeing, so he snuck into the St. They became so depressing that Nageki used a phrase that he and Hitori promised that he would never use again "I'm fine." Then, the letters stopped all together. Isa would never allow visitations and Nageki's letters were getting increasingly more depressing in nature and tone as time went on. However over time Hitori began to have a feeling that something was off, as Dr. Hitori received regular letters from Nageki while he was at St. Though Nageki himself was hesitant about going, he still went and enrolled at St. Hitori was overjoyed by this and informed Nageki of the offer. He offered top quality, round-the-clock care for Nageki, as well as an effort to find a cure for his condition. This doctor, Souma Isa, invited Nageki to stay at the special St. He searched for months, years, until one doctor finally reached out to them in the beginning of 2183 via letter. Hitori searched tirelessly to find a doctor that would help Nageki in any way. He was more focused on Nageki's fragile health, often fretting when the mourning dove would come down with a fever that would last for days. Hitori never minded working to support Nageki and himself. Hitori tried his best to care for Nageki but it was difficult with Nageki's poor immune system. The two moved out of the orphanage and into a different living space soon after. Hitori profusely apologized for not being there for Nageki. He searched the orphanage in a panic and eventually came across a terrified Nageki, the only birdie to survive the shooting. Though at the time, he did not give much thought to the humans' death. Nonetheless, he managed to get inside of the orphanage, where he found everybirdie dead. When he tried to run inside, other birdies tried to hold him back and told him that there were human terrorists inside and that even the human negotiators were killed. As he neared the orphanage, he saw security cars parked in front of it. On the day of the Heartful House incident, Hitori was traveling back from work while thinking about what to get for their weekly family gathering. He excelled at studying, and eventually became a teacher at a school near the orphanage. He was one of the older birdies at the orphanage, and he greatly cared about supporting the other birdies there. He lived at the Heartful House orphanage along with Nageki Fujishiro. It is revealed late in the route that Kazuaki's real identity is Hitori Uzune. He tells Hiyoko to come back in a few years if she still wants to be with him to see if his heart can become capable of love once more. This loss had caused him great distress and made him feel unprepared to love someone again. He reveals that the photo Hiyoko had found was of someone that he had loved dearly and lost. Later, when she confesses her feelings for him, Nanaki could only reply that he is unable to love anymore. On it was a mess of scribbles made in black marker over a face making the identity of the person in the photo indistinguishable. Hiyoko finds a photo that Professor Nanaki had dropped.
